One Direction, also known as 1D, is an English-Irish pop boy band that formed in London, England in 2010. Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson make up the band; former member Zayn Malik left the group in March 2015. After forming and finishing third in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor in 2010, the group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records.
Social media has catapulted them to global success. One Direction's five albums, Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), Four (2014), and Made in the A.M. (2015), topped charts in most major markets and spawned hit singles such as "What Makes You Beautiful" (their first number one on the UK Singles Chart and the highest debut for a British act on the US Billboard Hot 100 since 1998), "Live While We're Young", "Best Song Ever", and "Best Song Ever". One Direction became the first band in US Billboard 200 history to have their first four albums debut at number one after the release of Four.

Niall James Horan (born September 13, 1993) is an Irish singer-songwriter. He rose to prominence as a member of One Direction, a boy band formed in 2010 on the British singing competition The X Factor. Following the band's hiatus in 2016, Horan signed a solo recording contract with Capitol Records.

Liam Payne
Liam James Payne (born 29 August 1993) is a singer and songwriter from England. He became well-known as a member of the boy band One Direction. Payne made his singing debut in 2008, when he auditioned for the British television show The X Factor. He auditioned again in 2010 after being eliminated from the competition and was placed in a group with four other contestants to form One Direction. Payne collaborated with other producers under the monikers "Big Payno" and "Payno" to create remixes for his group's and Cheryl's songs.

Louis William Tomlinson (born Louis Troy Austin on December 24, 1991) is an English singer-songwriter. He became well-known as a member of the boy band One Direction. He began his career as an extra in the ITV drama film If I Had You and the BBC drama Waterloo Road. He auditioned for the British music competition series The X Factor in 2010. Following his elimination as a solo performer, he was placed in a group with four other contestants to form One Direction.

Zayn Javadd Malik (born January 12, 1993), better known as Zayn, is an English singer and songwriter. Malik, who was born and raised in Bradford, auditioned for the British music competition The X Factor as a solo contestant in 2010. Malik was brought back into the competition after being eliminated as a solo performer, along with four other contestants, to form the boy band One Direction. Malik left the band in March 2015 and signed a solo recording deal with RCA Records.
